Wates picks former Lendlease boss to join exec committee

Wates has appointed former Lendlease veteran Brian Long as its new group health, safety and wellbeing director.

Long will join the family-owned contractor in September and sit on the group’s executive committee, reporting to chief executive Eoghan O’Lionaird.

Long previously worked at Lendlease for more than 17 years, latterly as group head of sustainability and safety based in Sydney, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Most recently Long worked as group general manager for health, safety and environment at Mirvac, one of Australia’s largest development and construction companies. He has also worked at Woolworths, the largest food and retail group in Australia and New Zealand, as well as multidisciplinary firm Aecom.

Long said: “I have been very impressed with the genuine care Wates has for the wellbeing of its employees and partners, as well as its excellent track record in managing safety. I am eagerly looking forward to joining the company later this year to run its industry-leading work in this space.”

O’Lionaird said: “I am delighted to welcome Brian to the Wates Group to lead [the health and safety] agenda, and to maintain our exceptionally high standards and drive our continued and long-standing commitment to the wellbeing of everyone who works for and with us.”
