Vitor Pereira has travelled to the UK today to take over as Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach after agreeing a one-and-a-half-year deal.
Wolves have agreed a compensation package with Saudi club Al-Shabab for the 56-year-old to replace Gary O’Neil, who was sacked on Sunday after a run of just three Premier League wins in 26 game dating back to last season.
Pereira, who has managed a host of clubs including Porto, Fenerbache and Shanghai Port in China, is expected to be in charge for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Leicester City.
Wolves hope Pereira will meet his new players on Wednesday to begin preparations for his first game in charge.
The players had a day off on Monday following O’Neil’s departure on Sunday but returned to the training ground today with under-21s coaches James Collins and Richard Walker leading the session.
Pereira is expected to appoint his own backroom staff after O’Neil’s team of Tim Jenkins, Shaun Derry, Ian Burchnall, Neil Cutler and Woody Dewar all left with the former head coach.
Pereira, whose contract at Al-Shabab was due to expire at the end of the season, is set to fulfil a long-held ambition to manage in the Premier League.
He will take over a team 19th in the Premier League, five points behind the safety line. They have won just twice this season.
