Yesterday’s marathon between Dan Evans and Karen Khachanov broke the record for the longest match in US Open history (measured by time).
Despite trailing 4-0 in the fifth set, Evans remarkably prevailed 6-7(6), 7-6(2), 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-4.
The match lasted five hours and 35 minutes, surpassing the previous US Open record of five hours and 26 minutes that was set by Stefan Edberg and Michael Chang in the 1992 semifinals.
Evans will face Mariano Navone in the second round, who needed less than half as much time to win his match yesterday.
