Stuttgart agree deal to sign Deniz Undav from Brighton on permanent basis

Stuttgart are close to completing the signing of Brighton & Hove Albion forward Deniz Undav.

The Bundesliga club have agreed a deal worth £28million (€32.6m) plus add-ons with their Premier League counterparts.

The 28-year-old is set to sign a three-year contract through 2027.

Undav has two years remaining on his Brighton contract but he will now return to Stuttgart, where he spent last season on loan.

The striker scored 18 goals and provided 10 assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances to help them qualify for the Champions League.

The Athletic reported in June that Stuttgart had a buy option included in the loan agreement with Brighton for Undav.

That clause was negotiated before 31-year-old German Fabian Hurzeler succeeded Roberto De Zerbi as Brighton’s head coach in June.

Hurzeler held discussions with Undav this summer in a bid to persuade him to stay in England but to no avail.

Undav signed for the south coast club from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise in 2022. He went on to score five goals in 22 appearances in his debut season in the Premier League.

He was named in Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann’s squad for the European Championship where he made one appearance as a substitute in his country’s 2-0 win over Hungary.
