Sky's Angel Reese posts 13th consecutive double-double, breaks Candace Parker's record

In the 20th game of her professional career, Angel Reese broke a 14-year-old record. Reese posted her 13th consecutive double-double against the Seattle Storm, besting Candace Parker’s 12-game double-double streak that spanned the 2009 and 2010 regular seasons.

Reese, the No. 7 pick in the 2024 draft, posted 17 points and 14 rebounds in Chicago’s 84-71 loss to the Storm as the Sky split their two-game set in Seattle.

She has been rewriting the record books throughout her rookie season. She is the only rookie in Chicago Sky history to post at least 20 points and 15 rebounds in a single game. On June 30, Reese set the single-season record for consecutive double-doubles with 10, a mark she has since extended.

She also has 14 double-doubles this season, which is the most in the league. Reese also leads the WNBA in total rebounds and offensive rebounds.

The gaudy box scores have resulted in team success for the Sky. Chicago was projected to be a lottery team entering the season but collected its eighth win of the season Friday against the Storm despite being 9.5-point underdogs. Reese set a career-high with 27 points in that game to go along with the first two 3-pointers of her WNBA career.

The Sky sit in seventh place in the league standings and would qualify for the playoffs if the season ended today. They are 19.7 points per 100 possessions better with Reese on the court, which is the second-best on-off differential on the team behind point guard Lindsay Allen.

Reese was selected by the league’s coaches as an All-Star this past week. She is Chicago’s lone representative in the midseason showcase and the fourth Sky player to make the All-Star game in her first season, joining Candice Dupree, Courtney Vandersloot and Elena Delle Donne.
