Red replaces Henry on Westminster office project

Red Construction Group has been appointed to replace failed Henry Construction Projects on a Westminster office scheme.

The Bedford-registered company was appointed by Tellon Capital to deliver the 40 Broadway scheme under a £50m contract.

Henry Construction Projects was initially named as main contractor for the project but fell into administration last June.

Now Red will construct a steel frame and natural stone facade with feature windows close to St James’s Park at the heart of the capital.

The new building will deliver more than 12,000 square metres of indoor area as well as several roof terraces, a ground floor cafe and a single-storey basement.

It is designed with a focus on sustainability and occupant health, and is targeting WELL Platinum and BREEAM Excellent ratings.

The site is within the Broadway and Christchurch Gardens Conservation Area. In keeping with the appearance of neighbouring Grade II-listed buildings, it will feature traditional brickwork at the rear and a metal-clad mansard roof.

Red Construction group executive director Ian Hopkinson said the scheme was “a prime example” of what the contractor “does best”.

“Nestled in the heart of Westminster, our team is well-versed in appraising the unique construction challenges due to the capital’s heritage and scale,” he added.

Tellon Capital founder James Burchell said the client was “pleased” to announce the contractor’s appointment.

“We are thrilled to be delivering a high-quality office development that sets an example for a high-performing building while considering the sensitive local context,” he added.

“This is a really exciting project, breathing new life into Westminster.”
