WASHINGTON — Here comes Tristan Jarry.
After two weeks in the American Hockey League, where Jarry was sent to find his game after a disastrous start to his campaign at the NHL level, the Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled their No. 1 goaltender from Wilkes-Barre.
He will be eligible to play starting on Monday against the Dallas Stars.
In his AHL stint, Jarry recorded a 4-1 record with a 2.16 GAA and a .926 save percentage. The Penguins are optimistic that his successful showing at the AHL level is a sign that Jarry’s game is in order.
In just three appearances with the Penguins at the NHL level this season, Jarry is 1-2-0 with a 5.47 GAA and an .836 save percentage.
Jarry is under contract with the Penguins for three more seasons after this one, counting $5.375 million against the salary cap.

What can we expect from Jarry?
I imagine the Penguins will start Jarry on Monday against Dallas. Sure, it’s a tough matchup against one of the NHL’s best teams, but there is absolutely no point in sitting Jarry once he returns to the NHL.
While the Penguins haven’t officially made their plans clear, it’s expected they will send talented rookie goaltender Joel Blomqvist back to Wilkes-Barre for the simple reason that they don’t wish to retain three goaltenders on the NHL roster.
This isn’t to suggest that the organization doesn’t like Blomqvist. Far from it.
What to look for
Goaltending is no exact science, but when Jarry struggles, he tends to play far too deep in his crease. The more confident he feels, the more aggressively he typically looks in terms of challenging shooters.
The pressure on Jarry will be immense, as he’s under the spotlight more than ever and is playing behind one of the NHL’s worst defensive teams.
