Oregon hit big on the recruiting trail on Saturday, picking up a commitment from five-star safety Trey McNutt out of Cleveland, Ohio.
The 6-foot, 180-pound McNutt, who plays at Shaker Heights High School, chose the Ducks over Texas A&M, Florida, USC and Ohio State. He is ranked No. 19 overall and the No. 2 recruit in Ohio in the Class of 2025 in the 247Sports Composite.
His father, Richard McNutt, played at Ohio State from 2000-02 and is currently the defensive backs coach at Tennessee State.
The Ducks have 15 commitments and the No. 6 class nationally. Dan Lanning signed the No. 3 class in 2024, but it did not include any five-star recruits. His 2025 class has three — McNutt and wide receivers Dallas Wilson and Dakorien Moore.
Oregon’s recruiting has hit another level since Lanning, 38, took over for Mario Cristobal following the 2021 season. The Ducks are on pace to sign three consecutive top-10 recruiting classes for the first time in school history. Cristobal signed two top-10 classes in his four seasons as the coach at Oregon, in the 2019 and 2021 cycles.
Oregon’s class features four blue-chip receivers and three top-100 defensive backs, with McNutt joining Texas native Dorian Brew (No. 36 overall) and Maryland native Brandon Finney (No. 97). The Ducks are also in contention for five-star safety/linebacker Jonah Williams from Galveston, Texas.
