Nottingham Forest sign Portugal winger Jota Silva

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Portuguese forward Jota Silva from Vitoria Guimaraes.

The 25-year-old — who celebrates his birthday today (Thursday, August 1) — has signed a four-year contract at the City Ground, which is worth in the region of €7million (£5.9m), with a potential further €6m in add-ons.

Former club Casa Pia are expected to receive a portion of the transfer fee, as part of the deal that saw him move from there to Vitoria in 2022.

Silva, who scored 15 goals and provided seven assists in all competitions last season, can operate on either flank or in a central role.

Silva, who can operate either as a forward or as a winger, began his career with Sousense in Portugal, before spells with Espinho and Leixoes. He made his international debut for Portugal in March and has won two caps under Roberto Martinez.

The capture of Silva follows on from the signings of attacking midfielder Elliot Anderson from Newcastle, in a deal that valued him at £15m, versatile winger or full-back Eric Moreira from St Pauli for £1.25m, goalkeeper Carlos Miguel from Corinthians (£3m) and defender Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina for £12m.

Forest also signed midfielder Marko Stamenic from Red Star Belgrade, before sending him out on loan to sister club Olympiacos.
