Mohamed Salah casts doubt on Liverpool future: 'It's my last year at the club'

Mohamed Salah has cast doubt over his Liverpool future by saying this will be his “last year at the club”.

The 32-year-old is into the final year of his current deal, which is worth around £350,000 ($461,000) per week plus bonuses.

Liverpool have yet to offer an extension meaning the forward could be playing his last season for the club after seven glittering years on Merseyside.

“As you know, it’s my last year at the club,” he told Sky Sports after scoring once and providing two assists in Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

“I just want to enjoy it — I don’t want to think about it. I feel like I’m free to play football and we will see what can happen next year.”

Salah made it 16 goals in 16 meetings against United and in doing so scored for a seventh consecutive game at the home of Liverpool’s great rivals.

Asked to clarify whether this could be his final appearance at Old Trafford as a Liverpool player, he replied: “I was coming to the game thinking this could be the last time.

“Nobody at the club has spoken to me yet about contracts, so I will play my last season and see at the end of the season.

“I don’t know if I will (come back) but, yes, my last game here with Liverpool. It’s not up to me. Nobody (has) talked to me from the club but we will see.”

The Egypt international has previously insisted he is relaxed about his contract situation.

Asked about Salah’s comments, Arne Slot said: “In this moment he’s one of ours and I am really happy with him being one of ours.

“He plays really well. I don’t talk about players’ contracts but I can talk for hours about how Mo played today if you’re interested in that?

“He was impressive, like he was in the first two days, but if you talk about an individual, you don’t do justice to all the other ones because you saw a real good team performance — playing out from the back, high press, midfield that kept on running.”

Salah signed for Liverpool from Roma in 2017 and has gone on to score 166 goals in 260 Premier League appearances since then.

Italy international Federico Chiesa arrived in a £15m transfer last month in order to provide depth alongside Salah.

Liverpool defenders Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also out of contract in 2025.
