Giorgio Armani Returns To Venice, Celebrating Its One Night Only International Series

Attending were actors Kerry Washington, Jessica Chastain and Benicio del Toro who all made it to Venice despite the Hollywood strike

On September 2^nd, Giorgio Armani Privé, the Haute Couture arm of the company held a runway show in Venice. The talk of the town, it’s one of the social highlights of the Venice Film Festival. An ode to the city of Venice, the theme “One Night Only Venezia,” was held in a series of international events that the brand is doing. Having done this event in London, Tokyo, Beijing, Rome, New York, Paris, and Dubai, and, they are all designed to have a minimum environmental impact that’s in compliance with ISO 20121.

The collection was unveiled at the Arsenale, an ancient complex of buildings that once made up the shipyards and workshops in the eastern part of the city. The runway, held in a rectangular shape, included guests around its perimeter with large arches in the center. Silhouettes sparkled with a plethora of sequins and crystals that elevated the craftsmanship. The rhombus takes center stage as the shape is seen on almost every look, outlined in pastels of lavender, pale orange, and a type of teal for the color palette. But, most of the looks are done in black and white, with strong spurts of color evenly balanced throughout the collection, like the bubble gum pink gown, or the blue and teal gown.

Smart and sophisticated describe the looks in the collection. Black pants are matched with a tailored white blazer that fits the feminine form. Sequined skirts and dresses glisten, a reminder that the collection is a celebration of the ancient city. The Haute Couture looks were presented against the backdrop of the Tese delle Nappe.

After the show, a cocktail party followed for seven-hundred plus guests, with a live performance by Róisín Murphy and a DJ set by Mark Ronson. Other notable names in attendance include model Madisin Rian, who was the first black model as the face of Armani Beauty. Actresses Sadie Sink, Camila Mendes, Maude Apatow, Spanish actor Miguel Ángel Silvestre, and the CW’s All American actor Michael Evans Behling.

In line with the sustainable measures these One Night Only events stand in line with, they are designed to incentivize, reuse, and recycle material that in turn promote waste collection. From reducing food waste, to promoting the single-use plastic and require the use of LED lighting, all Giorgio Armani suppliers are required to comply with the House’s social environmental standards.

“All residual greenhouse gas emissions linked to the event will be offset by supporting environmental projects, managed by ‘Sea the Change’ and ‘Società Agricola Blue Valley’, that aim to preserve the ecological equilibrium of the Venetian Lagoon and to restore its ecosystem and biodiversity,” states the House in notes. And going further they are financially supporting ‘We are here Venice,” a nonprofit that conducts research to protect the Venetian lagoon.

This isn’t the first time Giorgio Armani has been in Venice. In 1990 the fashion house made their presence known at the premier of Made in Milan, which was directed by Martin Scorsese. Mr. Armani hosted a party for Scorsese at the Ca’ Leone on Giudecca. Throughout his sartorial career, Mr. Armani has partnered with film, making costumes for many productions, dressing actors and directors attending the festival.

This is also the sixth year that the beauty wing of the Armani brand is the official beauty sponsor of the festival.
