Five England fans arrested during Slovenia draw at Euro 2024

Five England fans were arrested at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne on Tuesday for their team’s goalless draw with Slovenia.

Two supporters were arrested for assault, two for trying to enter the stadium without a ticket and one for criminal damage.

The UK Football Policing Unit (UKFPU) confirmed the arrests in a statement on Wednesday, adding that the majority of the approximately 15,000 England fans in Cologne were “extremely well-behaved with no disorder reported”.

Eight England fans were arrested in Frankfurt following their 1-1 draw with Denmark last week, while one was arrested ahead of their European Championship opener against Serbia on June 16.

England’s goalless draw with Slovenia secured them top spot in Group C. Gareth Southgate’s side had already been assured of qualification for the last 16 heading into the match thanks to results in other groups but will now face a third-placed side in the next round.

The Netherlands are one of the teams England could face in their last-16 game in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday after their 3-2 defeat by Austria earlier on Tuesday. Depending on Wednesday’s results, England may play the third-placed team in Group E, which could be any one of Belgium, Slovakia, Romania or Ukraine.
