Chelsea set to sign Mamadou Sarr from BlueCo-owned Strasbourg

Chelsea are set to sign teenage defender Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg.

An agreement is in place over a €14million (£11.9m; $14.4m) deal for Chelsea to sign the centre-back at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Both Strasbourg and Chelsea are owned by BlueCo, the multi-club ownership group.

The 19-year-old defender joined Strasbourg in August from Ligue 1 rivals Olympique Lyonnais in a €10m deal, meaning they will bank a €4m profit when he exits in the summer.

Sarr, who is also eligible to represent Senegal, has been capped by France up to under-19 level and was a member of their European Under-17 Championship-winning side in 2022.

Strasbourg currently have three players on loan from Chelsea: goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, defender Caleb Wiley and central midfielder Andrey Santos.

Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill have been Enzo Maresca’s first-choice central defensive partnership this season, while Trevoh Chalobah was recalled from his loan spell at Crystal Palace last week. Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi and Josh Acheampong have also played in the position this season.

BlueCo, a consortium led by Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly, paid €76.3million (£65.2m; $81.7m) for a 99.97 per cent stake in the French club in June 2023.
