Brentford interested in signing Jobe Bellingham

Brentford are interested in signing Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland.

The 18-year-old, who can play in midfield or up front, made 45 appearances in the Championship this season, scoring seven times and providing one assist.

Bellingham started his career at Birmingham City, like his older brother Jude who plays for Real Madrid, before earning a move to Sunderland in June 2023.

Brentford have been monitoring the England Under-19 international’s performances. Brentford’s priority in the summer transfer window is to upgrade their defence, with first-choice full-backs Rico Henry and Aaron Hickey both suffering from long-term injuries, but midfield is another area which requires investment.

They have released Saman Ghoddos and Shandon Baptiste following the expiration of their contracts while Josh Dasilva is recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Bellingham fits Brentford’s transfer model of signing young players with vast potential and developing them. For example, they signed Keane Lewis-Potter from Championship side Hull City in July 2022 for £16million.

Brentford like players who can cover multiple positions too as it gives them greater tactical flexibility and Bellingham’s unique mould will be appealing.

Sunderland are not aware of any approach or formal interest from Brentford.
