Anthony Gordon trains after bike fall, Luke Shaw continues injury return

Anthony Gordon took part in England training with a grazed chin after falling off a bicycle as Gareth Southgate’s side stepped up their preparations for their Euro 2024 last 16 match against Slovakia on Sunday.

The 23-year-old suffered the fall during a recovery day on Wednesday. Gordon, who was wearing a helmet, came off his bike during a ride around the team’s base at the Spa & Golf Resort Weimarer Land in Blankenhain.

The Newcastle United winger made his first appearance at this year’s European Championship as a second-half substitute in England’s goalless draw with Slovenia on Tuesday.

Luke Shaw, meanwhile, continued full training as he works towards a return to match fitness.

The Manchester United left-back has not played since February but has been backed by Southgate to return to match fitness and solve England’s left-back problem.

Shaw returned to full training on Monday, the day before England’s 0-0 draw with Slovenia, and continued this morning at England’s rural base.

Declan Rice and Kieran Trippier were the two England players who did not participate in full training on Thursday, instead following individual programmes. Rice and Trippier’s workloads are being managed after a busy run of games.

Phil Foden was also absent, having temporarily left England’s camp ahead of the birth of his third child.
