Even by Newcastle United’s standards, the transformation in mood over a week has been stark. Three wins, 11 goals, two clean sheets and a Carabao Cup semi-final place is certainly a decent return for Eddie Howe’s inconsistent side.
A difficult festive fixture list awaits, however, with Aston Villa on Boxing Day, Manchester United on December 30, and then Tottenham Hotspur as their opening opponents of 2025.
But has Howe finally settled upon his strongest XI, with Sandro Tonali as the nominal No 6 and Bruno Guimaraes as the right-sided No 8? Given Alexander Isak’s exceptional form, is there a concern inside the club that they could receive an astronomical offer for the striker in January? And are Newcastle making progress in terms of potential incomings yet?
