Microsoft To Preview ‘Mango’ Update For Windows Smartphone At TechEd 2011
Microsoft has chosen the TechEd conference in Atlanta to preview its Windows Phone update known as ‘Mango’.
The Mango 7.5 update will be the first major update for Microsoft’s smartphone platform and it is expected to bring it alongside rival platforms from Apple and Google, iOS and Android respectively. The update is also expected by industry experts to introduce a number of unique features.
The Mango update will allow users to create, edit, store and share documents via Office 365 and Windows Live SkyDrive. Microsoft’s smartphone platform will also support Twitter integration, Facebook Chat and AOL Instant Messaging as well as being able to search for exchange servers and use conversation view in e-mail.
Microsoft executive Paul Bryan said “With new capabilities for developers in Mango – such as HTML5 support and the targeted distribution of apps – we expect an even larger number and wider range of apps for Windows Phone in the future.”
Microsoft are extremely optimistic about the Windows Phone Marketplace platform and it is widely expected to move ahead of Blackberry World and the OVi Store when talking about the number of available apps but it still has a long way to go to catch the market leaders in the sector, Google and Apple.
